The fourth annual Trillectro will be headlined by Chicago star Chance the Rapper and Fool’s Gold affiliate RL Grime. Norwegian producer/DJ Cashmere Cat, crooner JMSN, rapper Dom Kennedy and ascendant R&B singer Kehlani also top the bill, alongside locals D.R.A.M. (of “Cha Cha” fame), Chris McClenney, Babeo Baggins, Mista Selecta, Masego, Hi$to, NativeSun and Ayes Cold.

Merriweather Post Pavilion will host Trillectro this time around. Located in Columbia, Maryland, the roomy, grassy venue is a step up from last year’s RFK Stadium festival grounds in D.C., but it’s less accessible without a car or shuttle bus.

Launched by promotion group DC to BC in 2012, Trillectro started out as a somewhat scrappy production with an eye toward on-trend hip-hop and electronic music. It’s since expanded — though not without growing pains — and has earned a reputation as the place to see up-and-coming names in both genres. (Take two of last year’s Trillectro acts, Migos and Rae Sremmurd, now influential and pervasive on hip-hop radio.)

Trillectro tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

D.C. Festival News: Trillectro Is Coming, In It Together Fest Announces More Bands http://bandwidth.wamu.org/d-c-festival-news-trillectro-is-coming-in-it-together-fest-announces-more-bands/ http://bandwidth.wamu.org/d-c-festival-news-trillectro-is-coming-in-it-together-fest-announces-more-bands/#respond Mon, 06 Jul 2015 20:53:01 +0000 http://bandwidth.wamu.org/?p=54245 This post has been updated with more information from Trillectro co-organizer Modi Oyewole.

This summer will bring the second edition of In It Together Fest and the fourth annual Trillectro, two music festivals that take aim at the D.C. region’s seemingly inexhaustible supply of 20-somethings.

In It Together Fest — the punk-skewing festival that plans to take over mostly DIY venues from July 30 to Aug. 2 — announced the latest updates to its already beefy schedule last week, including performances from locals Paint Branch, Teen Mom, Shark Week and Mattress Financial. In It Together Fest hosts its main showcase at Columbia Heights church St. Stephen’s on Aug. 1, featuring Philadelphia’s Cayetana and Baton Rouge heavies Thou.

Organizers of trendy hip-hop and electronic event Trillectro, meanwhile, dropped their own news today: a date for the 2015 concert. Trillectro will take place Aug. 29 this year, according to the fest’s social-media accounts. No word on what venue or acts can be expected. (Co-organizer Modi Oyewole says venue information is coming this week.)

By this time last year, Trillectro had already announced its schedule for the 2014 event, which took place on RFK Stadium’s festival grounds.

More updates are forthcoming from In It Together Fest, which is also planning a 30th anniversary celebration for punk-rock activist group Positive Force, scheduled for Aug. 2 at St. Stephen’s.

Trillectro 2014 Lineup Announced http://bandwidth.wamu.org/trillectro-2014-lineup-announced/ http://bandwidth.wamu.org/trillectro-2014-lineup-announced/#respond Wed, 02 Jul 2014 18:35:23 +0000 http://bandwidth.wamu.org/?p=35225 The third annual Trillectro hip-hop and electronic music festival returns to D.C. on Aug. 23 this year—this time to RFK Stadium’s festival grounds—and today promoters DC to BC announced the 2014 lineup.

This year’s Trillectro headliners are rapper Big Sean and “Harlem Shake” producer Baauer, with significant hometown support from Fat Trel, Goldlink, Oddisee, Lightshow, Redline Graffiti and festival opener Ras Nebyu. Other acts on the extremely trendy lineup include Georgia hip-hop group Migos, R&B vocalist SZA, and Hudson Mohawke collaborator Lunice, among numerous others (see the full sked below).

Let’s hope the bigger venue cuts back on the long waits and epic lines that dogged last year’s Trillectro, which took place at the Half Street Fairgrounds.

Early tickets are for sale now at dctobc.com.
