Warning: Explicit lyrics. Since a 2014 mixtape and a 2015 album — not to mention a membership in that year’s XXL Freshman Class and a deal with major label RCA — there hasn’t been much noise from D.C. rapper GoldLink.

But the emcee’s discography got a boost this week with the release of the song “Fall In Love,” which announces its presence with a funky flute lick, segues into a sassy R&B vibe and features a tasteful bass breakdown at the end. Also in the mix: the DMV’s Ciscero. (Jazz/hip-hop group Badbadnotgood and producer Kaytranada reportedly handled the beat.) The track, which got a “Hottest Record In the World” designation Thursday from BBC1’s Annie Mac, also has at least one fan among from D.C.’s hip-hop luminaries:

Stream Kali Uchis’ Chill New EP, ‘Por Vida’

After months of singles and videos, rising vocalist Kali Uchis is getting ready to release her new nine-track EP, Por Vida, Wednesday. But the former Northern Virginia resident — now in Los Angeles — premiered the release on Pitchfork this morning.

Por Vida isn’t as obviously funk-driven as her earlier collaboration with Snoop Dogg, “On Edge,” or the Bunx-produced “Real”; she takes numerous opportunities to slow down and croon (“Melt,” “Call Me,” “Loner”) but still delivers subtle, satisfying pop tunes (“Rush,” “Ridin Round”). Reggae-inflected single “Know What I Want” feels like the EP’s centerpiece. Production comes courtesy of Bunx, Alex Epton, Caleb Stone, Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD and Tyler, the Creator.
