Sometimes it’s tough to tell when the clever, shape-shifting Bethesda, Md., natives Trans Am are being serious—take their 1999 conceptual album, “Futureworld,” described by Washington City Paper as an “LP-length joke“—but a new song from the post-rock band’s forthcoming album, “Volume X,” sounds sincere enough. The version that premiered on Stereogum this morning is straight-up Jesus and Mary Chain.

“Volume X,” a 10-song LP that is also the band’s 10th studio release, is unleashed May 20. Trans Am also plays Black Cat with Heavy Breathing on May 22.
