Hyattsville has more restaurants and shops at this time, but the other municipalities are gaining ground in that area. The press needs to cover them more. The newest restaurant of note is Bird Kitchen at 34th St and Rte 1 in Mt Rainier. Brentwood and Mt Rainier esp. have way larger numbers of artists than Hyattsville does. Hyattsville is rents and mortgages are spiking; however, the other cities are more reasonable, for now. Every year there is a Gateway Open Studio Tour in May — it’s huge, 100+ artists.
