Alexandria superstar-in-the-making Kali Uchis still hasn’t released Por Vida, the followup to her 2012 mixtape Drunken Babble, but today she offers an amuse-bouche: a dark new video that plays out a demented revenge fantasy.
The video for the reggae-flavored “Know What I Want”—premiered on Fader today—shows Uchis driving through the desert in a vintage car (one of her favorite visual devices). Then she stops and opens the trunk… and the onion’s layers begin to fall away.
Uchis—master of Instagram and Twitter—routinely tweets witty, inspirational nuggets to her fans, usually about her no-BS stance on love and life. The lyrics to “Know What I Want” take a similar shape: “Should have left your ass in the friend zone,” she coos. (Her victim surely wishes the same.)
According to Fader, Por Vida is due out at the beginning of 2015.
