Today the rapper and producer originally from Largo, Maryland, premiered a new video for “Belong to the World” via Fader. Shot in Los Angeles by Zack Kashkett, it finds Oddisee roaming around solo, for the most part, looking spiritual while gazing across a dry California landscape, cool while puffing on a hookah and relaxed while rocking a crowd at the Echo.

The producer/MC tells Fader that “Belong to the World” is “about making a transition from feeling like I didn’t fit into anything into understanding we belong to everything. It is a song about understanding that the world is bigger than the small things we want to be a part of.”

Oddisee plays U Street Music Hall Oct. 16.

Jess Williamson Live In Echo Park http://bandwidth.wamu.org/jess-williamson-live-in-echo-park/ http://bandwidth.wamu.org/jess-williamson-live-in-echo-park/#respond Fri, 13 Jun 2014 17:50:57 +0000 http://bandwidth.wamu.org/?p=31088 The arid landscape of southern California is a long way from from Texas, but nonetheless felt like an appropriate setting to experience the voice and songs of Austin native Jess Williamson.

Her debut album, Native State, comes as a result of her return back to her hometown, following a stint in New York studying photography. The deeply personal songs on the record were inspired by a period of introspection and self-reflection.

While she was on a tour stop in Southern California, Bandwidth was lucky enough to witness her resonant dark folk as she performed a couple of songs for us on a dusty hilltop in Los Angeles.
