A few years back, two high-school friends from Vancouver met up in New York and combined their musical talents to form a poppy electronic duo under the moniker Bob Moses. Their star is rising fast, and KCRW was thrilled to host their U.S. live radio debut. “Tearing Me Up” sounds to us like an unmistakable hit.

KCRW Presents: Julia Holter

KCRW Presents: Cage The Elephant

The Kentucky band Cage The Elephant made the move to Nashville for its latest record, and brought in The Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach to produce it. The result is poppy garage rock with a psychedelic edge. Cage The Elephant recently returned to KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic to share a few new songs, including “Trouble.”

KCRW Presents: Savages

Savages‘ first album, Silence Yourself, was a ferocious and angry record. On the follow-up, Adore Life, the message is no less powerful, but the focus has shifted to love and the importance of living in the moment. The British post-punk band is incredible live, as this performance of “Adore” for KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic demonstrates.

KCRW Presents: JR JR

JR JR started winning us over with its catchy pop songs five years ago, when the band went by the name Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Now, the group is starting a fresh chapter with a new name, but that doesn’t stop Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott from employing an old trick in their single “Gone” — that unmistakable whistle hook.

KCRW Presents: Beirut

A new romance and a move to Turkey inspired Beirut‘s Zach Condon to change his approach to recording the band’s latest album. Instead of the meticulously layered songs of their previous releases, the band jammed in the studio until inspiration took hold. KCRW Presents: St. Lucia

KCRW Presents: Hiatus Kaiyote

Soul/funk/jazz collective Hiatus Kaiyote received a Grammy nomination for their debut and found big-name fans in Prince, Questlove, Erykah Badu and more. The band’s new record is even more ambitious — but a live setting is the best way to experience their genre-defying grooves. We hosted them at Apogee Studio and “By Fire” was a clear highlight.
