Animal Collective To Drop An Album Recorded Live At 9:30 Club http://bandwidth.wamu.org/animal-collective-to-drop-an-album-recorded-live-at-930-club/ http://bandwidth.wamu.org/animal-collective-to-drop-an-album-recorded-live-at-930-club/#respond Wed, 02 Sep 2015 23:11:48 +0000 http://bandwidth.wamu.org/?p=56076 In June 2013, big-deal experimental-pop band Animal Collective played a sold-out, three-night run at D.C.’s 9:30 Club. If you’re a fan who missed the gig, chill: The group is about to release a live album taped during one of those shows.

Friday, the band originally from Baltimore, Maryland, drops Live at 9:30, recorded June 12, 2013. It arrives in advance of Animal Collective’s newest record, the followup to 2012’s Centipede Hz.

Live at 9:30 will be the second Animal Collective record to feature the name of a D.C.-area cultural landmark: In 2009, the group released Merriweather Post Pavilion, an album named after the Columbia, Maryland, concert venue booked by 9:30 Club operators I.M.P.

The live album is limited to 2,000 vinyl box sets. It’s available for pre-order now, to the tune of $40.

Here’s the tracklist — and you can stream “Did You See the Words (live)” below.

1. Amanita
2. Did You See the Words
3. Honeycomb
4. My Girls
5. Moonjock
6. New Town Burnout
7. I Think I Can

Photos: Union BBQ At Union Market http://bandwidth.wamu.org/photos-union-bbq/ http://bandwidth.wamu.org/photos-union-bbq/#comments Mon, 16 Jun 2014 15:17:42 +0000 http://bandwidth.wamu.org/?p=34185 When the redeveloped Union Market opened in 2012, it brought a new culinary emporium to a gentrifying section of Northeast. It quickly become a foodie destination—but it’s since grown beyond a bougie food market, hosting a drive-in film series, Washington City Paper‘s Crafty Bastards, and now, an outdoor electronic-music festival.

Saturday, a couple of thousand people flocked to Dock 5—the warehouse venue behind Union Market—for the first Union BBQ, a daylong festival booked by U Street Music Hall.

The lineup united a few different strains of local and international electronic music: The xx’s Jamie xx headlined the outdoor stage, with warm-up sets from former locals Tittsworth and Nadastrom, among others; the inside stage hosted a full and diverse slate, including Animal Collective’s Geologist and Deakin, Virginia resident (and Netherlands native) Martyn, and event co-organizer Will Eastman, alongside acts like Montreal’s Kaytranada and San Francisco’s Viceroy.

Below, scroll through Bandwidth’s photos from some of the night’s performances.
