I missed a chance to see Skywave in 2001. Now that I have no romantic regrets, that is the regret of my life. (I guess that means my life is pretty good.)

They played at a music festival at my school. I hadn’t heard their music. I had heard of shoegaze but could only imagine what it sounded like. I remember vaguely wanting to see them, but really wanting to catch the two bands that went after them. Little did I know, Skywave would become my favorite band a year later when a friend put Echodrone on the stereo and it totally floored me.

I’ve since seen Ceremony once (with Paul) and APTBs four times.

How unfortunate that Skywave weren’t fully appreciated when they were still around. I was living in Washington DC in 2004 and discovered them too late I suppose. Static Daydream made a great cover of “Wear this Dress” on this comp. The next step hopefully is to reissue Skywave’s discography. I think it could make for a fantastic little box set!
