And they’re all [freaking] awesome. It’s crazy.”

However, referring to DC as the city that birthed hardcore calls all your other facts into question. The term itself came from Vancouver stalwarts DOA, but even DC’s punk/hardcore icon Mr. MacKaye has renumerated many times that the bands in LA, SF, and NYC were their predecessors in the hardcore world. DOA, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Germs, Middle Class, Circle Jerks, and many more all released records before Bad Brains had even recorded theirs… and they were in NYC by then and quickly influenced all the early NYHC bands that came shortly before the hardcore bands of DC. Obviously, I’m splitting hairs as the timing was all bang-bang, but that one statement really stood out as wrong in an otherwise great piece.

Supreme Commander, Creep Crusades, Throwback, The Screws, Copstabber, Dead End Lane, Teamster, Walk the Plank, Never Submit, etc.
