night, Feb 12, from 7 to 9pm at the Shaw Library (7th & R, NW) for our
program on the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles concert at the Washington
Coliseum.
We’ll screen the show in its entirety and have a conversation with those who were
there firsthand… or wish they were! Among those joining us, Tom Carrico
(former manager of Mary Chapin Carpenter, etc.), Naomi Banks and her Coliseum
scrapbook (she lived on the block, worked at the venue), Washingtoniana (DC
Public Library’s archive) will display great photos from the Washington Star
newspaper. Michael Oberman, Washington Star’s music columnist was at the ’64
gig. He’ll be with us. Anita Breitenberg interviewed The Beatles for “The
Springfield Independent” at The Coliseum in ’64. Yes, she has a copy of the
article and great stories to share. Frank Rothgeb whose father managed the
arena was at that show and will join us. A Beatles collector will do a show and
tell of some memorabilia. And the list goes on!
I hope you’ll consider joining us.
